Conserve Maasai Mara Community Resource Centre

Conserve Maasai Mara is envisioning to build a community resource center in Maasai Mara. The design is on progress. It will have a library, computer lab with internet connection, a research and training facility, filming facility for school children to educate them about wildlife and advance women beading area for women in the community to make ornaments and other accessories, education, forestry and conservation center.

Our Objectives

Environmental Conservation

To promote environmental conservation activities including tree planting and reservation of the natural resources in the community. Training the youth and support them to establish tree nurseries to raise seedlings for planting. They will also be trained on tree management practices and record keeping of their generated income from the sale of tree seedlings.

Collaboration and Networking

To assist livestock farmers to improve food security situation in livestock and through training and upgrading of indigenous livestock breeds. To partner with other stakeholders and partners e.g. donors (both local and international), county and national government in helping the community and the target area to improve the quality of life through training and material support to understand their desired interventions.

Awareness Creation

To create awareness of importance of education and the need to complete ones education. To support education for school going children and adults in non-formal education and provide training in the specific area of interest that will range from services based business skills to credited courses, we ensure that we support and provide high quality education to improve standards of learning within the organizations supported schools.

Clean Water Accessibility

Improve clean water accessibility to the community by drilling boreholes and shallow wells in the target areas. This will be able to facilitate the community to access good drinking water fit for human consumption particularly those living in water inadequate places. To assist in the building of water reservoirs, underground tanks and dams to capture rain water for use in dry season.

Solving Human Wildlife conflicts and training the community on how to approach human wildlife conflicts amicably.

Tree planting in the Mara 2022-2023

More than just planting tree’s this fantastic project also teaches school children the responsibility to care for something where they will see real results from their efforts and learn why conservation is so important. Supported by The Perfect World Foundation. Meikan safaris limited and Piper Mackay Photography are teaming up with Conserve Maasai Mara for the annual tree planting and fundraising project. Mayian, who is a Maasai and the founder of Conserve Maasai Mara, has selected 8 schools in the Sekenani area (the lower gate to the Maasai Mara) and Talek to participate. Each school has a about 500 students. The students will not only be helping with the planting of the 10,000.00 trees but will have the responsibility to water and nurture the trees to full growth. Each student will have 2-3 trees that is their sole responsibility. We believe this is a magical experience for young children and may produce some of the next conservationist in Kenya. The trees will be planted at the end of April in what should be the start of the big rainy season. At the end of the high season (tourism) and before the short rains in November the team will visit the schools and the children who have done the best job of caring for their personal trees will be selected to go on safari with Meikan Safaris in the Maasai Mara.
